With this being my first Movie review blog post, I thought what better way to start than with my favourite movie of all time… Pulp Fiction. I know very unique of me to have this movie as one of my favourites but there’s a reason it’s a lot of people’s favourite and globally recognised and referenced to this day.
So what can I say about this movie that hasn’t already been said, well to be honest not very much. Quinton Tarentino had a tough job on his hands topping Reservoir Dogs being his first Movie but some how pulled it out of the bag, improving on every single aspect possible. Everything from the Music to the cinematography from Andrzej Sekula is shot with purpose and perfection.
The story is told in a non-chronological order which follows 3 separate but interlocking stories of Vincent Vega (John Travolta), a contract Killer and gangster who works for Mob Boss Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames). Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson) another of Marsellus’ Gangsters and Vincent’s partner in crime. Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman) Marsellus Wallace’s Wife. And Finally Butch Coolidge (Bruce Willis) an ageing Boxer with a hell of a lot of pride and looking for a way out.
I’m not going to go through the whole movie as the majority of people have probably already seen the film or if you haven’t what are you doing, but what I am going to do is talk about scenes and aspects of the movie I particularly like.

First of all the cast and acting, Ronnie Yeskel, Gary M. Zuckerbrod and Quinton Tarentino got the casting spot on for this Movie. Sam Jackson and John Travolta absolutely kill it in their roles as Vincent and Jules, the chemistry between the two is so likeable and believable, when watching you believe they are two gritty gangsters but also two very close friends who get into some tough situations.
Uma Thurman was also a great casting choice as Mia Wallace. I think this is Uma Thurman’s best performance in any role she’s done. playing a seductive, smart mob boss’ wife who has a lot of depth and ultimately makes a character who could have been very bland and boring to a cool, thought provoking character.
Ving Rhames and Bruce Willis are probably the least favourite out of all the main casts performances but they are still however very good. I love the characters arcs of both characters as they are at first sworn enemies with Marsellus using every possible resource to find Butch to finally sorting their differences after murdering a sex pest store owner and disturbing corrupt Police Officer.
Now that was just the main cast, every single side character has depth and a personality no character is weak or just thrown in for the sake of it. For me Tim Roth who plays a bank robber only known as Pumpkin in the movie and Amanda Plummer who plays his Girlfriend who is also a bank robber known as Honey Bunny, both do a fantastic job opening and closing the film. There performances are gripping.
The screenplay of the movie itself is outstanding, this is by far Quinton Tarentino’s best work. Every character has so much depth and backstory without ever having to see it. Quinton knows how to make a conversation between 2 characters interesting and flow so easy. This film isn’t all run and gun, that’s why I am so fascinated by it as the majority of the movie is just people speaking but the things they say and opinions they have whether it’s Ezekiel 25:17, about the Royale with cheese or how you know you’ve found someone special when you can share silence comfortably with them. There’s a reason this film is so god damn quotable.
The Music in this movie creates such a sense of atmosphere. From son of a preacher man by Dusty Springfield while Vincent stumbles round Marsellus Wallace’s home to you never can tell by Chuck Berry as Mia and Vincent take part in the iconic dance scene.
To summarise this review, I think pulp fiction is a complete and utter masterpiece and should be seen if you love Movies, it’s has everything and how Quinton Tarentino managed to pull this movie off is just brilliant and that is why it is my favourite Movie of all time.
